It’s stylish and unique, and if your looking for a stay over in the Lake District this really is an outstanding holiday home to visit.
The Wheelhouse at Staveley has 3 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 6 people, AND it also has its own SAUNA!
Staveley is a brilliant base for your Lake District adventures, and is a thriving working village. And the Wheelhouse at Staveley is right in the heart of it all. Within just a short walk there is the Hawkshead Brewery with it’s Beer Hall, the Eagle and Child pub, Wilf’s Cafe, More? Artisan Bakery, Cafe Eclec, Mr Duffins and Kimi’s Artisan Gelato. And the public transport is great too with the train station a few minutes walk away, and the excellent 555 bus that goes all the way North up the Lakes as far as Keswick.
Please note that the Wheelhouse at Staveley is situated next to a small industrial site and there may be some noise, as you might expect, from vehicle movements, mainly during normal working hours during the working week.
This unique holiday home is on two floors as follows:
Living Room
- The living room is an open plan living/dining area, which is bright modern and stylish. Floor to ceiling glass windows and doors welcome in light and give a view into the enclosed private patio at the front of the Wheelhouse. The whole living space is tastefully decorated and large framed photographs reflect the beauty of the Lake District – a them that continues throughout the Wheelhouse.
- There are two large leather sofas and a flat-screen television On the wall with Netflix available and free WiFi throughout.
- The adjacent dining area has a dining table which includes a map of the Lake District National Park. This is ideal for planning your next walk or cycle ride over breakfast or dinner. Seating is a combination of benches and leather dining chairs.
Kitchen
- The kitchen is modern and well designed with all the comforts of home.
- There is an induction hob, an oven, fridge, freezer and dishwasher and hopefully everything that you could need. There is also ample space for cooking and preparing meals.
Utility Facilities
- Utility facilities are available which include a washing machine, clothes horse, iron and ironing board. There is also a drying room in one of the outside stores.
Landing
- There is a large landing with a chaise longue and another flat screen television. This is a great area for the kids to play Xbox or watch DVDs or Netflix.
Sauna
- After a hard day in the hills, the private internal sauna is a great way to relax and ease away the stresses and strains of the day. The sauna is coin operated and takes 20p coins – so please come prepared if you are planning to use the sauna.

There are three bedrooms that sleep six guests and all rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable.
- Bedroom One has a king-sized bed, with a dressing table and stool, bedside tables and wall mounted reading lights.
- Bedroom Two also has a king-size bed and has a chest of drawers and bedside tables.
- Bedroom Three has two single beds, with bedside tables, a wardrobe.

What Our Guests Say...
Thank you

Dear Sue and Chris,
Thank you so much for this lovely and comfortable place to spend a vacation at the beautiful Lakes.
Being here for the first time (surely not for the last) we enjoyed everything: beautiful weather, mini supermarket, Eagle and Child, Tea room, Lake side, and last but not least the challenging and satisfying Striding Edge and Helvellyn.

Absolutely Fantastic

Absolutely fantastic place and wonderful hosts
Very clean and amazing touches
Everything was great. Very clean and amazing touches. We didn’t have children in this trip, however, everything is thought about for all ages, books games, TV, Sauna, well equipped kitchen.. so on the rainy days we had lots to do at home and enjoyed it.. Very quick responses and at all times of the day. Location was convenient with good parking. And if you walk left, you will enjoy a nice walk with beautiful views. And going right is towards the town.. Rooms were sparkling clean and comfortable.. all in all , it was great. Thank you.
“ticks all the boxes”
There was nothing we didn’t like or appreciate about The Wheelhouse at Staveley. We genuinely felt blessed to have found it. This is what we loved: -Fast response from owners. -Easy booking system. -Confirmation quickly arrived, with entry advice. -Contact details given freely. -Arrival was easy, self entry clearly explained. -The Wheelhouse on arrival is located exactly as it says on the advertising online. So as we were happy with what we saw online, we had no surprises. -Location, Staveley is a village we discovered last year, we visited twice, at night then, for food. Without realising quite what a well serviced village in a stunning location it is. We would not hesitate to stay in the village again, it feels much better than being in the mass tourism of Windermere and Ambleside etc yet is just minutes by car to the former. -The Wheelhouse is exactly as on the advertising online. 3 bedrooms, 2 double, 1 twin, each of them ideal for us, linen is spotless, beds comfy. Kitchen is well equipped and clean. Bathrooms spick and span and look brand new. Sitting and dining area, a social space, with plenty of room, TV is a decent size, sofas comfy, table seating for about 8. Sauna is internal not outside making it a luxury. Outdoor space is a pretty yard at the front, with seating, bike store and it is in the sun afternoon and evening, which great. Parking front or back 3 cars in total. -Convenience, The Wheelhouse is located a 3 minute walk (tops) from a very good Bakery (More?), an actual Brewery with tours, food and drink, a local butcher, post office, spar and busy pub (all open Sundays). -Scenery and walking – a 3 minute walk and you are heading off into the Kentmere Valley, open countryside and everything the Lakes has to offer. General opinion, we have been coming to the Lakes for many years, both as childless twenty somethings in a tent, then with babies in self catering and now with independent teenagers, it is so difficult to find a place that ticks all the boxes. Quite simply, this does.
“kids asked if we could live there forever”

The Wheelhouse at Staveley is a really lovely place to stay in a great location. We’re a family of four (kids aged 8 and 4) and had a brilliant stay over Easter; we couldn’t have been happier with everything about it. The house itself is a really well designed space – great living / dining room, modern kitchen, spacious bedrooms with plenty of storage space and comfy beds, two smart shower rooms and even a sauna (which we ran out of time to try but are eager to return to have a go in!) There was everything we needed for our stay, from basics like loo roll and washing up stuff, to quality wifi, jigsaws/games and even Netflix on the main TV. And everything was spotlessly clean. We didn’t have bikes with us this time around, but the secure bike store and separate drying room at the Wheelhouse would really encourage me to bring them next time. Staveley is a great little village too. The Hawkshead Brewery is very close by and has a great beer hall serving good food and brilliant beer. Village pub The Eagle and Child was very pleasant too (as was the Watermill Inn at neighbouring village Ings). Kids loved the village playground and I liked being able to head out for a run up into the hills above the village straight from the house. The local shop is open good hours and had all we needed for picking up supplies. We headed out around Windermere most days on our stay – just a few minutes down the road – and had a great time exploring at Wray Castle, doing treetop adventures and kayaking at Brock Hole and even dragging the kids out round Tarn Hows and most of the way up Loughrigg, all within very short drives from the house. (One other tip for future visitors – we didn’t go up Orrest Head, from Windermere town, on this trip but it’s a must-do for a first family hill climb. It’s an easy walk and the views on a good day are truly amazing). So we loved it and would highly recommend it. As we left this morning one of the kids asked if we could live there forever; sadly not, but we’d definitely be keen to return 🙂
An ‘Eat, Pray, Love Experience’

Thank you so much Sue and Chris. It’s been an ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ experience for me. There is so much good food and coffee and beer in this village that I have eaten, I pray we will return and we absolutely ‘love’the Wheelhouse! The seventeen year olds loved the Xbox, WiFi and Netflix! S, C B xx
